Sir Graham Burton KCMG
Graham Burton has spent 40 years in the British Diplomatic Service, much of it in the developing world. He was 30 years either in the Middle East or dealing with Middle East issues. He served as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates between 1990 and 1994. Thereafter he was Ambassador to Indonesia until 1997 when he moved to Nigeria for four years as British High Commissioner.
Between 1984 and 1986 Graham headed what is now the Counter Terrorist Policy Department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. A non executive director of Magadi Soda Company since June 2001, he is also an adviser to the board of Control Risks Group. Additionally he is a trustee of the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind. He was made KCMG in 1999.
